Gītā-nāgarī: An Essay
In February 1949, years before he sailed for America, Śrīla Prabhupāda wrote to the Deputy Prime Minister of India proposing that Mahatma Gandhi be commemorated in the Gandhian way, by building a village organised on the four principles Gandhi had taken from the Bhagavad-gītā. The essay that grew from that letter, Gītā-nāgarī, appeared in Back to Godhead in 1956 and then lay in the archives for decades.
The Varṇāśrama Book Trust has brought it out as a short illustrated volume: the 1949 letter, the essay in two parts, an introduction and an appendix on mother cow and father bull. It is the earliest full statement of the village idea in Śrīla Prabhupāda's own hand, and the shortest way into what the rest of these books are about.
